Frequently Asked Questions
Painting the walls and ceiling of a typical room can usually be completed within a week. The precise timing depends on the amount of preparation required (e.g. removing previous wall coverings, repairing cracks and plaster damage, the number of coats and the drying time of the paint used (I typically apply 3 coats of trade emulsion), the amount and condition of woodwork to be painted and the intricacy of the design - i.e. picking out panelling and rails in a different colour to the main wall colour takes longer. Wallpapering most small rooms takes about day, but if the walls need more preparation or you’ve chosen a detailed pattern or feature paper like silk or flock, I’ll generally allow up to two days to make sure the finish is spot on.
A typical small/medium sized room is likely to cost around £350-450 including trade emulsion paint and materials. If significant filling / sanding and/or wallpaper stripping is required, expect to pay a further £250-350. Adding painting the woodwork with a gloss or satinwood finish will typically add £150-£550 depending on the area and condition. Larger rooms and more elaborate and intricate designs will also increase the cost. Also, please note, price of wallpaper is not incluced in the above. Most of my clients tend to choose wallpapers in the £25-60/m² range as these are good value for money for a cleaner finish in keeping with their property, although it is possible to pasy in excess of £150/m² for bespoke designer papers.
I normally book work up to a month in advance, but please ask as I may have time before that.
It is useful to have the room cleared before I start, although I'm used to working around large furniture items and will always cover and protect them as well as covering the floor. I am also happy to help you clear the area. If using bespoke wallpaper, it is crucial this is ordered before we land on a start date.
